The musical “Mamma Mia!” is the most popular “jukebox musical” in the world (meaning one where the musical’s storyline is simply a pretext to present pre-existing songs). Every day, somewhere in the world, there are at least seven different “Mamma Mia!” shows being performed on at least three continents! “Mamma Mia!” features the most well-known, and the most popular, classic ABBA hits, neatly woven into a moving and amusing storyline: 20-year-old Sophie, in an attempt to find out who her father is, brings to life the past of her mother Donna, now a single parent and owner of a small guest house on a picturesque small Greek island. It’s about love, sea and sunshine!
Since its premiere in London in 1999, and on Broadway in 2001, “Mamma Mia!” has been performed in 17 different languages, and during the last part of the evening (the encores) – when the whole cast joins the audience to perform a medley of the hits “Mamma Mia!”, “Dancing Queen” and “Waterloo” – it’s clear that musical audiences have never had so much fun! The end of every performance of the musical at ROMA Theatre also finished in a similar fashion, with audiences first giving the cast a standing ovation, and then joining in with the singing and dancing.
The musical “Mamma Mia!” enjoyed a two-year run on our stage on Nowogrodzka Street and – just as it was around the world – it was always incredibly well received. During that time, 560 separate performances were staged before its run came to a close on 11 June 2017.
